I am going to share with you what the name "Seventh Day Adventist" stands for.

The seventh day, as we learn in Gen 2, is it was established as the Sabbath or day of rest on the last day of the creation week.

The "Seventh Day" is making a statement by honoring God as our Creator.

"Adventist" is a statement of faith in the promises of God and are waiting for the second coming or advent of Jesus! According to the promise of His second coming.

Cain and Abel is a story of how important it is to follow the Word of the Lord, with a trust and faith in God's promises. Cain question in his heart "why can't I us for the sacrifice that I want to us". Then he decided that it would be okay to do what he wanted to do.

Abel never questioned God because he believed with respect for God and His promises.

Cain thought he could do as he wanted by works, then when his sacrifice was not excepted he got mad at Abel and it drove him to kill his brother.

To just think it does not matter is where works really comes into play. We need to study and seek understanding so the Holy Spirit can guide us into all truth.

May we look to Jesus and respond through love by honoring and obeying our God and Creator!

May God bless you abundantly in your studies!
Frank

The Seventh Day Adventists have many admirable qualities, health issues, emphasis on various areas of prophecy. But their insistence that the Biblical Seventh Day is SATURDAY by the Gregorian Calendar is too far from the truth to receive.
For almost all that embrace the SATURDAY (Sabbatarian) doctrine have never really studied the issue closely enough to be able to tell us what calendar the seventh day was first ordained. And then in doing that prove that is was SATURDAY.

But let me help you out. It cannot be done for the simple reason SATURDAY never was the Biblical Seventh Day as revealed to Moses or the ancients. And even if so, it would of necessity be a rotating Sabbath to keep pace with the obligatory feasts that came on the same DAY of the MONTH each and every year of the growing seasons. Israel was an agricultural society, not an industrial nation. Their obligatory feasts followed the harvests, and other seasonal events that demanded the days be so adjusted to keep in sync with these events.

Israel simply worked six days and rested the seventh. The days of the week were not designated as they are today, that was a later PAGAN practice. They reckoned time by the number of the day of the month, such as the 10th or the 20th, etc of a certain month. SATURDAY is never mentioned in the OT or the NT. When it says the first day of the week, folks ASSUME that was SUNDAY. But it was only the first day of the (Hebrew) week. That calendar has been changed by the way. And in our western world, from the Julian to the Gregorian. None of which is the ancient calendar under which the Israelites observed.

The Seventh Day Adventists have NEVER proven by Biblical data that SATURDAY by the Gregorian Calendar is the obligatory Sabbath of the Israelites or necessary for the gentile converts. They simply appeal the issue and beg one to be "obedient." But obedient to what? Incorrect information? That is not obedience but bondage.

If one wishes to obligate themselves to SATURDAY by the Gregorian Calendar, let them do so. But they cannot impose an errant system on their brethern.

Peace.

Greetings, friend

 >>> They simply appeal the issue and beg one to be "obedient." But obedient to what? Incorrect information? That is not obedience but bondage. <<< Yes, that is very true, so it is important to study so that we will not be deceived. Anybody thinking that they can earn there way is in bondage. Or trying to obey to be saved is by works, which can not and never could save a person from the penaty of sin. Only The Lamb of God can save us from sin by His blood and grace. By faith His righteousness is ours! Amen

>>>If one wishes to obligate themselves to SATURDAY by the Gregorian Calendar, let them do so. But they cannot impose an errant system on their brethern. <<< You got that right.

It is sadly amusing to see all the excuses people seek out in order to keep them selves in bondage by attempting to obey God by what they deemed important or not important.

The main question is are we as Christians following Jesus with our New Heart to know Him and live for Him. If so then we have the promise of Jesus with His blood washing away our sins, even in our weakness!

How ever, I feel that you left a lot out in your attempt to show that the 7th day of day is not the 7th day of the creation week or in balance with the Israelite calendar. I could care less what name is given to the 7th day.

I have to my satisfaction studied about the different calendars of antiquity up to the modern era as we know it. It sound as though you have studied some too. I would like to point out an important and useful information that you may want to look into.

The Jews used two kinds of calendars:

Civil Calendar---Oficial calendar of Kings, childbirth, and contracts.

Sacred Calendar-- from which festivvals were computed.

Hebrew months were alternately 30 days and 29 days long. There years shorter than ours, had 354 days. Therefore, about every three years (7 times in 19 years) an extra 29 day month, Veadar was added between Adar and Nisan.

Adar coresponds with Feb. and Mar. and Nisan coesponds with Mar. and Apr.

Even with all the calendar differences, up to today the 7 day week has always exsisted and followed through.

Simply saying I can not understand your argument about the 7 day week, as far I can see it has no merit.

If my memory serves me right, at one time it was the French (I think) tried to change the calendar to 12 days but it faied to take hold and continue. (Hum I wounder why?) :-)

God bless as you seek to know Him.

May our prayer be:

"Oh, my best Friend, my Maker, my Lord, shape me and mold me into Thy divine likeness. Make me entirely like Thyself. Refine, purify, quicken me, that I may represent the character of God."

There was indeed a "civil" and a "religious" calendar, neither of which is the present day Gregorian Calendar nor for that matter the present day Jewish Calendar.
The Sabbath(s) were reckoned by the "religious" calendar. One can establish this by studying Scripture alone. One need not consult some convoluted arguments by theologians to establish this fact.

The days did indeed need correction since the path around the sun and our rotation (earth) does not equate to a 30 day phase in equal increments. The tilt of the earth on its axis demands a correction in the calendar to keep pace with the growing seasons and this is the key to the Sabbath(s).

Israel was instructed to REST on the 7th day of the week begining as recorded in the Torah. That particular day marked the begining of the sabbaths in relation to their worship, festivals and rest periods. They were to work 6 days and rest on every 7th day...but from an established starting point, not just any 7th day...it was a particular day for reasons stated.

The feasts, etc were to be observed on the SAME DAY of the MONTH eacn and every year, no exceptions. On the 10th or the 20th of whatever month as directed. These observances were to coordinate with the seasons and the harvests, (wave offerings, first fruits, etc). Hence, they could not "advance" little by little over the centuries as the procession of the calendar would have advanced if not corrected for the inequality of a non 30 day month.

Israel never observed SATURDAY as the obligatory sabbath, nor is the 7th day by the Gregorian Calendar the same Sabbath as observed by Israel under Moses.

Resting one day in seven is wise and should be observed, as the Sabbath was established for man and not man for the Sabbath. But there is no directive from the Apostolic company to observe Saturday, this is a construct of errant exegesis.

My dear friend

You seem to make a big issue about the Sabbath. It seems strange that you would put so much rationale into it just so you can claim it was lost. You have a right to think and live according to your conviction. I only hope your convictions come from study of God's Word instead of non biblical information.

After all, it is not what I believe or what you believe, but our personal relationship with Jesus and believing by faith in all His promises. Amen

For me, I desire to live my life in subjection to Jesus by dyeing to self. It takes a daily commitment. When I fail, I look to Jesus for His grace and Righteousness to cover me.

Phil 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. KJV

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. KJV

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. KJV

John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. KJV

Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; KJV

Ps 33:9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. KJV

May the blessings of the Lord Jesus our redeemer, rest upon you!

Frank

Effort was put into the investigation of the "day" of the Sabbath as claimed by the Adventist and the Sabbatarians, which includes the 7th Baptist and the Messianics, etc.
The Sabbath was not "lost," but the precise obligatory obervance of the Sabbath is really the issue. And that is the refutation. The present day Sabbatarians claim Saturday by the Gregorian Calendar is the obligatory Sabbath but it cannot be established from Biblical data, hence it is an errant concept as presently understood.

I have no argument with the personal relationship statement.

If Saturday as the Sabbath is not the issue, then there is no further need for dialog along these lines.

Peace.

To me the seventh day that was blessed by God at creation for a day of rest, is not the issue.

To me the real issue is willing obedience to our Maker.

Without respect and willing obedience, there is no way man will reflect God's character in there lives. Oh yes we fail many times but because of our commitment to Jesus. His blood will cover us.

When we have Jesus in our heart, we put on the new man that is living for God with a desire to share the Love of God with others. To see a non believer open up to the love of God is a wonderful thing to see, and experience.

Heb 12:1-4 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. KJV

May we look to Jesus and stand firmly for Him no matter the cost to self.
